Process

Run the project in the right order.

Use this page as a simple site checklist from survey to maintenance.

Project tracker

Track each phase as work moves on site.

1. Site Survey & Soil Prep

Week 0-2

Validated pit depth, water access, drainage behavior, and biomass amendment mix.

  • Mark the exact plot perimeter and confirm usable planting area after setbacks.
  • Run a jar test, infiltration test, and pH check before excavating.
  • Dig to root-zone depth, then blend perforator, retainer, and fertilizer inputs uniformly.

2. Sapling Selection & Layering

Week 2-3

A native species bill of materials mapped into canopy, sub-canopy, tree, and shrub slots.

  • Source only native species adapted to the chosen region and micro-climate.
  • Balance the layer mix so no single species exceeds roughly 10% of the order.
  • Lay out a staggered planting grid that keeps all four layers interleaved.

3. Plantation Day

Day 1

Saplings planted at Miyawaki density with root protection, watering, and heavy mulch in place.

  • Keep roots shaded, dip root balls before planting, and avoid air gaps during backfill.
  • Maintain 3-4 saplings per sq m with random distribution instead of same-species clusters.
  • Finish with deep watering and an 8-12 cm mulch layer across the full bed.

4. Maintenance

Month 1-36

A self-sustaining mini-forest with tapering irrigation and sharply reduced weed pressure.

  • Water daily during establishment, then taper by climate and monsoon pattern.
  • Weed aggressively in the first 6-9 months and top up mulch after decomposition.
  • Track mortality, replace failed saplings early, and stop intervention once canopy closure stabilizes.
